Music and Nightlife: Trey Anastasio Band makes State stop

TREY ANASTASIO is a founding member of the jam-rock band Phish. True. But Anastasio has also released eight albums on his own and collaborated with everyone from Dave Matthews to B.B. King, so checking out his Portland show with his own band seems a worthy thing to do.

Art and Theater: Midcoast performs Copland, Wagner

THE MIDCOAST Symphony Orchestra performs its second concert series of the season this weekend. Peter Jenkin, an Australian clarinetist, will perform Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto, and the orchestra also will perform Richard Wagner's "Flying Dutchman Overture" and Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 3 in E flat major, Op. 97.

Music and Nightlife: It'll be a funk-filled evening at Empire

THE TWO BANDS playing Empire on Friday have a couple of the best band names we’ve heard in a long time: Chaos Sauce and Shut Down Brown. Both are based in Maine, play funk-tinged tunes and obviously have a way with words.

Art and Theater: 'Bengal Tiger' gets Maine premiere

MAD HORSE Theatre Company offers the Maine premiere of Rajiv Joseph's "Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo," which throws two American soldiers, an Iraqi translator, a brooding tiger and a host of spirits together in war-torn Iraq.
