With ski swaps and barn sales taking off across the state, snow sports fans need to be mindful of another deal: the fourth annual Get a Lift contest.

Since 2010 the ski contest has been held by MaineToday Media, owner of the Portland Press Herald and the Maine Sunday Telegram, in partnership with Ski Maine, a Portland organization that promotes snow sports in Maine.

Starting today and running through Dec. 21, winners will be chosen and awarded free packages to ski or snowboard. Contest participants also have the chance to win free trail passes.

To enter one of four catagories, go to www.SkiMaineToday.com and in 25 words or less complete the sentence:

“My family would rather ski or snowboard than …”

Our panel of judges will select the best entries in each category. Then readers will get to vote for them online.

The four catagories you can enter in are “learn to ski” for both Alpine sports and cross-country skiing, and “love to ski” for both Alpine sports and cross-country skiing.

Mountains and ski areas across the state are participating to help encourage new snow sports fans, and celebrate the long-standing ones.

The Get a Lift contest opens today. And a pool of winners from week one will be chosen and voted on by readers from Nov. 30 to Dec. 7.

Dates for weeks two and three of the contest can be found on the contest website. For more information go to www.SkiMaineToday.com

All entries are subject to verification and may be rejected for any reason.

MaineToday Media reserves the right to use the winners’ names, town residence, photos and entry materials for contest promotion without consideration.
