Maine work force committee visits UMaine, Bangor

The Associated Press

BANGOR — Maine legislators on a new committee looking for ways to strengthen the state's work force and improve the state economy are visiting Bangor and Orono.

Members of the Workforce and Economic Future Committee are touring the University of Maine's Advanced Manufacturing Center in Orono on Wednesday as it focuses on work force development. After the tour, they'll take part in a panel discussion and public hearing at Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor.

The 15-member bipartisan committee is tasked with developing legislation to strengthen Maine's work force and help small businesses thrive. Much of its work will be directed at training Mainers with skills needed by businesses, and revitalizing small, downtown businesses.

Wednesday's visit to Bangor and Orono is the committee's first road trip, with at least two more planned.
