PORTLAND — Portland police are searching for a masked man they say chased a clerk through a convenience store while brandishing a handgun.
Nicole Clegg, the city’s spokeswoman, said that the incident took place Wednesday night at Tebb’s Smoke Shop at 845 Forest Ave.
The clerk, who was not harmed, told police that a masked man, who was armed with a gun, entered the store and began to chase her.
In the store's surveillance-system footage provided by Portland police, the clerk is shown diving over the top of a wall and crashing to the floor of the store. She races out of the store with the alleged gunman in pursuit.
The suspect, who fled the store on foot, wore a mask, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and was carrying a gray backpack.
Clegg said police are not sure if the alleged gunman intended to commit a robbery or some other violent crime. He is still at-large.
The store's manager, who did not wanted to be identified, said Thursday night that the clerk seen in the video has quit her job. She no longer wanted to work at the store because of what happened with the gunman, the manager said.
Anyone with information concerning the suspect or incident is encouraged to contact Portland police at 207-874-8584.
