WINTHROP -- A woman was robbed of prescription drugs early Sunday morning when four people, at least two of them armed with guns, forced their way into a Squire Court apartment, police said.

Winthrop Police Chief Joseph Young said the victim, a 71-year-old woman, was not hurt during the home invasion.

Young did not specify what, if anything, was taken during the robbery; but a radio bulletin to area police said the thieves made off with prescription drugs and a small amount of cash.

Someone knocked on the door of the woman's apartment and then the robbers, described as four young people dressed in dark clothing, barged in, Young said.

The victim "said they were looking in cabinets and drawers for prescription drugs," Young said, and she told police the robbers carried at least two handguns.

Police, including a dog, searched the area but failed to find the robbers, Young said. "It was evident either they were picked up or there was a vehicle in the area," he said.

Young asked anyone with information about the robbery to call Winthrop police at 377-7226 and ask for Detective Peter Struck.

He gave no other details of the robbery, but said, "There's a pretty good possibility we'll be able to solve this."
