Portland police seek man who brought rifle into RSVP

The man went into the Forest Avenue liquor store Friday and showed a rifle before fleeing.

Portland police are looking for a man who entered the RSVP Discount Beverage store at 887 Forest Ave. on Friday with a rifle.

Police say a man carrying a rifle went into RSVP Discount Beverage on Forest Avenue in Portland on Friday and said the gun was loaded, but made no demands. Police are looking for information about the man.

The man is described as about 40 years old, white, about 6 feet tall, with a medium build, according to a news release from the Portland Police Department. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, hiking-type boots and a filter-type mask that obscured most of his face.

The man made no demands but said his weapon was loaded, the release said. He fled to the rear of the business and onto the adjacent railroad tracks. Police tried to track him with a dog, but did not find him.

Officials request that anyone who witnessed the incident at 6:41 p.m. contact the police department at 874-8584 or submit a tip on the department’s website.
