Police have located a stolen 2004 blue Honda Accord in Old Orchard Beach and determined that it is not connected to David Glenn Hobson, a New Hampshire jail escapee, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

A 2004 black Toyota Highlander, which was stolen by Hobson on Thursday in Wakefield, N.H., and found Saturday night in York County, was taken to the State Police barracks in Alfred for processing. Investigators found bloody clothing inside, confirming that Hobson had driven the vehicle to Maine, McCausland said in a news release.

Police patrolled an area of Alfred and Sanford, near where the Highlander was found, throughout the day today in search of Hobson.

Residents in the vicinity of the search say they are jumpy and nervous.

“It is very scary,” said Kim Smith of Alfred.

“A lot of people are talking about it, just about everybody,” said Zac Brown, a clerk at Sonny’s Convenience Store on Middle Road in Lyman, a couple of miles from Whichers Mills Road.

Brown said he had heard the helicopters and sounds of searchers in the woods. “I think everyone is aware,” he said.

Maureen Menter, who lives on nearby New Dam Road, said she was especially nervous Saturday night but was less nervous during the daylight Sunday.

“It is a little unnerving,” said Menter.

Sandy Chapman and Sally Lewis, clerks at J and S Grocery and Deli in Sanford, one of the closest gas stations and convenience stores to the search scene, said they are worried.

“You don’t know where he is. He could be anywhere. Hopefully they will catch him soon,” said Lewis.

Chapman said the search brings back bad memories of a similar search for an escapee from the York County Jail down the road in Alfred.

“We have kids, kids who walk home from school,” said Chapman.

The Highlander was found by a New Hampshire State Police helicopter, which was aiding in the search. The Massachusetts State Police also sent their helicopter to participate in the search early
this morning.

A blood-soaked 2004 black Toyota Highlander stolen by a New Hampshire jail escapee was found Saturday night on Whichers Mills Road near the Sanford, Alfred and Lyman town lines.

The blood confirms police suspicions that David Glenn Hobson was seriously injured when he climbed a razor-wire topped fence to escape from the Carroll County House of Corrections in Ossipee, N.H., on Thursday, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Troopers, game wardens, local and county police and the U.S. Marshals Service are continuing to look for Hobson, but he has not been spotted since his escape. McCausland said police believe the 33-year-old Hobson, of Alfred, remains in the area.

They are still looking for a 2004 blue Honda Accord, with a Maine license plate number of 1355MV,  stolen in Sanford on Thursday night.

Police continue to warn people that Hobson is armed, dangerous and desperate. They have asked anyone who sees him or the Honda to call them.

Maine State Police are resuming the search for a New Hampshire jail escapee in York County this morning.

The search for David Glenn Hobson, 33, of Alfred continued into Saturday night in Alfred, Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety, said this morning.

In Alfred part of Ida Jim Road between Mouse Lane and Whichers Mills Road was shut down last night while police intensified their search in that area.

Hobson, of Alfred, escaped from the Carroll County House of Correction in Ossipee, N.H., on Thursday by climbing over a fence topped with razor wire. Police said he is armed and dangerous.

Hobson is white, 5-foot-6, and weighs about 135 pounds.
