AUCTION: The Ossipee Valley Agricultural Society will hold its second annual Take-a-Chance Auction Friday evening at Sacopee Valley Middle School at 115 South Hiram Road.

Doors open to view items at 4 p.m., with the auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

OGUNQUIT

CRAFT FAIR: The Animal Welfare Society will host two events in Ogunquit and Sanford this week.

The AWS will set up a table at the Patriots’ Day Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at 135 Beach St. in Ogunquit.

PORTLAND

SENIOR DRIVERS: Monday is the signup deadline for those who wish to participate in a seniors’ driver safety class offered for ages 50 and older from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at The Wood at Canco, 257 Canco Road.

The registration fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for all others.

Plan to update your safe driving experience and earn a discount on your auto insurance.

SENIOR DRIVERS: Signups are being accepted for an AARP driver safety class for drivers age 50 and older to be offered from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 10 at the AARP Maine State Office, 1685 Congress St.

The registration fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for all others.

Class size is limited and early registration advised by May 1.

FUNDRAISER: A fair trade fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Karma Fair Trade, 570 Brighton Ave.

LASER SHOWS: The full dome Sky Laser System returns to the Southworth Planetarium, at 70 Falmouth Road, for the final presentations this year, from April 12-21.

Planned omni-dome laser events Friday include Electrolaze, a new techno/dance laser show, at 7 p.m. and Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon at 8 p.m.

Saturday shows will include Laser Orion at 1 p.m., Laser Perseus and Andromeda at 3 p.m., Laser Beatles at 7 p.m. and Laser Pink Floyd’s The Wall at 8 p.m.

Sunday shows will feature Laser Perseus and Andromeda at 1 p.m. and Laser Orion at 3 p.m.
Admission is $5.50 per person and $1 for 3D glass rentals.

AFRICA TALK: Janet Littlefield will talk about her travels to Africa and the founding of the Go! Malawi nonprofit at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 3 of the Portland Public Library.

Go! Malawi is a small nonprofit based out of Hebron that offers trips to Malawi to help native peoples address issues facing developing countries.

Littlefield founded the organization in 1998 as a means to help Malawi girls gain an education in a rural area where there is no free public secondary school.

She will detail volunteer opportunities there as well as upcoming trips interested participants can tag along on this June and July.

The talk is free and open to the public.
