PORTLAND — A new poll has Republican Gov. Paul LePage winning several three-way race scenarios featuring Eliot Cutler as an independent.

The poll by Portland-based Pan Atlantic SMS Group laid out various scenarios in the governor’s race, for which four candidates have registered to begin raising money: LePage, Cutler and Democrats Steve Woods and David Slagger.

The poll released Wednesday indicates the Democratic race is wide open if Chellie Pingree, Mike Michaud and John Baldacci bow out.

And it shows LePage winning three-way races with Cutler and Baldacci, and Cutler and Michaud. But it shows Cutler beating LePage if Cutler ran as a Democrat.

Pan Atlantic surveyed 403 residents by telephone from March 11 to 16. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
