BOSTON – The Boston Bruins say forward Shawn Thornton will miss 7-10 days with a concussion.
Thornton was injured in the first period of Thursday night’s game against Buffalo when he fought with Sabres forward John Scott. He did not return.

Thornton has one goal and 25 penalty minutes this season.
The Bruins recalled forward Jamie Tardiff from the AHL on Friday. Tardiff leads the Providence Bruins in scoring with 21 goals and nine assists in 39 games.
FRIDAY’S GAMES
HURRICANES 1, SENATORS 0: Dan Ellis made 33 saves for his first shutout in more than two years and Eric Staal scored to lead Carolina over Ottawa.
Ellis, making only his second start of the season in place of Cam Ward, earned his 13th career shutout and first since Nov. 9, 2010, against Toronto while he was with Tampa Bay.
Carolina improved to 9-0-1 in its last 10 home games against the Senators.
Ottawa came in with a 5-1-1 record but struggled to generate many scoring chances. Jason Spezza underwent surgery on a herniated disc in his back earlier Friday, and the Senators could be without their No. 1 center for up to two months.
Craig Anderson made 34 saves for Ottawa.
CAPITALS 3, FLYERS 2: Troy Brouwer and Wojtek Wolksi scored third-period goals, and Braden Holtby made 29 saves in host Washington’s victory.
Niklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist for Washington, which had lost two straight.
Defenseman Bruno Gervais, and Brayden Schenn scored for the Flyers, who have lost three in a row.
Brouwer’s third goal of the season at 3:57 of the third snapped a tie and put the Capitals ahead for good. He took a pass in the left circle from Mike Green and wristed a shot over goalie Ilya Bryzgalov’s shoulder.
LIGHTNING 8, JETS 3: Cory Conacher had two goals and an assist to lead Tampa Bay’s rout over Winnipeg.
Tampa Bay also got goals from Steven Stamkos, Vincent Lecavalier, Nate Thompson, Teddy Purcell, Ryan Malone and Benoit Pouliot. Stamkos and Lecavalier both added two assists.
The Lightning, 6-1-0 this season, have scored five or more goals in four consecutive games.
Tobias Enstrom, Paul Postma and Andrew Ladd scored third-period goals for Winnipeg, which has lost three in a row.
RED WINGS 5, BLUES 3: Henrik Zetterberg scored three goals, and his second assist of the game set up Pavel Datsyuk’s tiebreaking goal at 9:38 of third period to help host Detroit beat St. Louis.
Zetterberg scored the first two goals and set up Jonathan Ericsson’s tying goal early in the third period. Detroit’s captain missed practice on Thursday because he wasn’t feeling well, but he was at the top of his game Friday.
St. Louis goalie Jaroslav Halak left the game shortly after Zetterberg’s second goal and was replaced by Brian Elliott.
