Sea Dogs game postponed in Erie; teams will play doubleheader Tuesday
The Portland Sea Dogs' game against the Erie SeaWolves was postponed Thursday because of rain in Pennsylvania and will be made up as part of a single-admission doubleheader at Hadlock Field on Tuesday.
The doubleheader will be two seven-inning games starting at 6 p.m.
NECBL: Brendan Hendriks sparked a four-run fourth inning with a two-run double, and the Holyoke Blue Sox held on for a 4-1 win over the Sanford Mainers in a season opener at Goodall Park in Sanford.
Troy Black and Cole Martin each had two hits for the Mainers.
FCBL: Matt Pagano went 3 for 4 with a triple, five RBI and two runs to lead the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide to a 10-2 win over the Seacoast Mavericks in a season opener at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.
Sam Canales and Mekae Hyde added two hits apiece.
TRACK AND FIELD: UMaine senior Jesse Labreck is in 15th place after the first day of competition in the heptathlon at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Ore.
Labreck scored 3,322 points in the first four events. She finished the 100-meter hurdles in 13.83 seconds; cleared 5 feet, 83/4 inches in the high jump; posted a best throw of 33-53/4 in the shot put; and ran the 200 in 25.29.
The heptathlon concludes Friday with the long jump, javelin and 800.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Former Auburn player Varez Ward pleaded not guilty to charges that he conspired to fix a game his team lost to Arkansas on Jan. 25, 2012.
PGA: Davis Love III and Stuart Appleby each shot a 4-under 66 for a share of the lead with four others after the first round of the St. Jude Classic in Memphis.
Harris English, Nathan Green, Martin Flores and Glen Day also pushed their way into the lead.
Defending champ Dustin Johnson was 5 under through six holes, taking advantage of near-perfect conditions at the TPC Southwind with a temperature in the low 80s and only a slight breeze early. But Johnson finished with a 67 and was tied with 10 others, including David Toms, a two-time St. Jude winner.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Jeff Sluman shot a 7-under 65 in Birmingham, Ala., to take a one-stroke lead over Fred Couples after the first round of the Regions Tradition, the second of five Champions Tour majors.
LPGA: Steady rain punctuated by heavy downpours forced the postponement of the first round of the LPGA Championship in Pittsford, N.Y.
The second major of the year will begin Friday morning, the second round will be Saturday, and the players will attempt to complete 36 holes Sunday.
EUROPEAN TOUR: England's Tom Lewis shot a 9-under 63 to take a two-stroke lead over Dutchman Joost Luiten after the opening round of the Lyoness Open in Atzenbrugg, Austria.
NFL: Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent tested positive for marijuana while he awaits trial in a Dec. 8 car crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown, prosecutors said in asking a judge to revoke the player's $100,000 bond and issue a warrant for his arrest.
