PIRATES 4, CUBS 2: Andrew McCutchen had three hits and two RBIs to lead host Pittsburgh past Chicago on a rainy Thursday for the Pirates' fourth straight win.

The Pirates moved a season-best 11 games over .500 with its 11th victory in 13 games.

He is batting .272 with seven homers and 25 RBIs. Freddy Galvis has replaced him in the starting lineup.

MARINERS: Slumping catcher Jesus Montero was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, a year after acquiring him in 2011 trade from the New York Yankees that hasn't panned out. He has 72 hours to join the club.

The 23-year-old Montero is hitting .208 with three home runs and nine RBIs.

YANKEES: Injured first baseman Mark Teixeira could soon start playing in minor league games while pitcher Andy Pettitte, who played catch for the first time since going on the 15-day disabled list, is also working his way back to the majors.

ORIOLES: Right-hander Jake Arrieta was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk and designated right-hander Alex Burnett for assignment on Thursday to clear a roster spot for rookie right-hander Kevin Gausman, the fourth overall pick in the 2012 draft who lost his debut to Toronto.

ROYALS: Struggling reliever Kelvin Herrera was optioned to Triple-A Omaha after going 2-4 with a 4.87 ERA in 19 relief appearances.
