The Standish Town Council supported an application for a $139,154 firefighter’s grant to equip the town’s fire department with protective gear.

The grant requests 82 complete and full sets of personal protective equipment or commonly called ‘turnout gear.” The gear includes, coats, pants, suspenders, boots, Nomex hoods, helmets, front shields, eye protection, bailout harnesses, flashlights and gloves.

The town matches 5 percent of the grant amount and Standish’s share would come to $6,958. Standish officials had already included $11,000 in the town budget for new equipment, so the town may save another $4,000 and receive the 82 complete sets of gear rather than the eight sets of protective clothing and another six sets of gloves requested in the budget amount.
