Legion meets Monday

The Hutchinson-Boulter Post 130 of the American Legion will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 11, at 401 Bar Mills Road, Hollis.

School staff appreciation week

Jessica Merrill of Brown Road said the Buxton Parent Teacher Organization is planning an appreciation week, May 3-8, at four elementary schools in SAD 6. The four schools are Jack Memorial, Frank Jewett, S. D. Hanson and Eliza Libby.

Members of the PTO are volunteering to make it a special day for teachers, office staff, custodians, bus drivers, support staff and cafeteria workers. The four schools have 125 staff members. “We feel that all of these people working as a team in our school system have made such a wonderful impact on our children that we would like to give back in some way,” Merrill said.

The PTO is collecting gift certificates to be be raffled off to the school staff as a thank you for all that they do. Individuals and businesses wishing to donate a gift certificate of any amount should call 727-4537. A PTO member would be glad to pickup contributions and sign appropriate forms.

Little Paws adopt-a-pet-day

Little Paws Animal Shelter will have an adopt-a-pet day 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at Aubuchon Hardware at the intersection of routes 202 and 4A.

The shelter has 25 dogs and 31 cats available for adoption. On Monday, it acquired 20 of the 100 cats that were being looked after by an elderly man in Newfield. The man is surrendering all the cats because he is no longer able to care for them.

Concert at Saco River Grange

The Old Grey Goose (International) presents a concert “On the Road to Cuba” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the Saco River Grange Hall, 29 Salmon Falls Road, Bar Mills.

The concert features rousing, traditional American folk songs inspired and influenced by the group’s recent humanitarian aid and cultural exchange trip to Cuba. The program will also show video clips of the trip on a big screen.

Admission is $12; students and seniors, $10. For reservations, call 929-6472.
