Brian Ross was named Windham’s new parks and recreation director at a special meeting of the Windham Town Council on Tuesday night.

The department has been without a director since the end of August in 2004 when longtime director Mark Robinson left to accept a job as town manager in Fayette, Maine. The official starting date for Ross is April 17.

Ross currently resides in Londonderry, New Hampshire with his wife, Diane and three children: Melissa, Katie and Becky. He graduated from University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration. He earned his masters of business administration at Southern New Hampshire College.

Before signing on with Windham, Ross was employed as the parks and rec director for Bedford, New Hampshire.

Town Manager Anthony Plante explained during the council meeting that there had been 35 applicants with many “fine candidates.” When speaking of his new employee, Plante said, “Brian Ross rose quickly to the top of that list. I am pleased to say that he has the credentials, nature, character and ability to serve Windham.”

Ross is also excited about his appointment and said he has no immediate plans to change the current program offerings. Ross is eager to hear from particpants concerning their ideas and hopes for the department.

Plante also expressed his appreciation for the dedication and hard work that Lynn Morrell, Jackie Roux, Sherri Holtan, and Nancy Johnston have displayed to maintain the full program through the transition period without a director.
