Chopin Club’s annual meeting

Rose Phinney, president of the Maine Federation of Music Club, was a special guest at the annual meeting of the Chopin Club on May 10 in the Culinary Arts Center at the Westbrook Regional Vocational Center.

Mary Levesque, president of the Chopin Club, and Kathy Mariano, club secretary, presented 50-year pins to Muriel Johnson and Lora Coffin. Norma Hall, Louise Leighton, Jacqueline Skvorak and Janice Beattie were presented 25-year-pins as was Kay Fernald at a later date.

Other members who attended included Elba Parr, Eva Hansen, Polly Hodgkins, Junie Dugas, Marjorie Cutter, Martha Day, Marian Rich, Jan Usher, Karen Lasater, Ruth Stokes and a guest, Florence Mariano.

Loven graduates magna cum laude

Benjamin A. Loven graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in religion on May 22 at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Loven was one of 371 students receiving diplomas.

Sallies in Universalist pulpit

Rev. Robert Sallies will be in the pulpit on Sunday, June 5, at the Universalist Church on Main Street.

His sermon is entitled “What Time Is It?”

Historians’ annual meeting

The Westbrook Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at its headquarters at the American Legion Hall on Dunn Street.

The business meeting will be followed by a slide presentation of the society’s collection. Refreshments will be served.

Joint yard sale

Presumpscot Commons Senior Community and Mission Possible Teen Center, neighbors on Main Street, are holding a joint yard sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 11.

Organizers are looking for donations of items in good, clean condition but computer parts, clothing, encyclopedias and magazines can’t be accepted. Donated items can be picked up and stored. Those wishing to donate should call Emily Perkins, activities coordinator at Westbrook Housing Authority, at 854-6841.

Proceeds will be split between Presumpscot Commons and Mission Possible Teen Center.

Proud great-grandparents

Cora Fernald and Jeanette Daly of Westbrook are great grandparents of Barker Alec Maski who was born on May 18 in Sacramento, Calif.

Former Westbrook residents Edward and Susan Fernald of New Hampshire are grandparents, as are John and Barbara Barker of Virginia.

Scouts serving breakfast

Boy Scout Troop 81 will be serving their annual pancake breakfast under the tent from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Riverbank Park during Westbrook Together Days.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, home fries, sausage and sliced ham. $4, $2.50.
