All too often, in our society, we find ourselves pointing blame, making accusations and finding fault. Not often enough do we recognize the good that people do. For the past couple of months, we’ve been fairly vocal, in the media, in regard to the lack of support we felt we were receiving from Westbrook City Hall regarding the paper street situation on Chestnut and Mitchell Streets (Mitchell Hill Subdivision). I feel it’s now important to give credit where credit is due. The Westbrook City Council offered nothing but support from day one of them being informed of our situation. Jim Violette, John O’Hara, Brendan Rielly, Drew Gattine, Gary Groves, Ann Peoples and Suzanne Joyce, you all deserve a great deal of credit for the way you handled this situation. We’re not only saying this because the vote went in our favor. We’d be writing this letter even if the vote went against the moratorium. We owe you all a great deal of thanks for the genuine concern you showed each of us being affected. To the City Administration, particularly Mayor Chuluda, City Administrator Jerre Bryant and City Solicitor Bill Dale. Since our first informational meeting in August, we couldn’t have asked for better support. We really got the feeling that you were all listening to our concerns and are making a true effort to correct definite problems that exist in our ordinances as a result of flaws that exist in Maine’s Law. Our hats are off to you for the way you’re currently dealing with this situation. The information you’ve offered has been extremely helpful. We realize there’s a limit to the changes that can be implemented but look forward to working with you to prevent this from happening elsewhere. Again, Thanks for a job well done.
