Free walk-in blood pressure clinics are offered every Wednesday by a registered nurse from noon to 1 p.m. at the Naples Professional Pharmacy. The clinics are provided as a service to the greater Naples community.

“The American Heart Association urges all adults to check their blood pressure,” states Kim Ficker, owner-pharmacist. “One in three adults has high blood pressure, but many don’t know they have a problem because there are no symptoms. The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to have it checked. We hope the lunchtime hours will make it easy for those who work in and around Naples to take advantage of the clinics. For people with high readings, the few minutes it takes to get through our blood pressure check could be life-saving.”

High blood pressure is sometimes known as “the silent killer.” The American Heart Association cautions that “uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney failure, blindness, and other medical problems.” About 65 million Americans have high blood pressure, nearly half of whom are women. Diet and exercise my help to prevent or treat the disease, but the actual cause of high blood pressure is not known. What is known is that if the disease is not discovered and treated, it can be deadly.

The Naples Professional Pharmacy is conveniently located in the Naples Professional Center at 410 Roosevelt Trail next door to the Naples Family Practice. The clinics are every Wednesday, noon to 1 p.m. Pharmacy hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. For more information, contact the pharmacy at 693-6111.
