Raffle winners

Mary McGuirk of the Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 has announced the winners in last week’s raffle to benefit the post’s elevator fund.

The winners are from Westbrook with the exception of Cohlman, who is from Saco; Glidden, Gorham; and Moreau, Portland.

Denise and Jeff honored

Denise and Jeff Watts were honored at a surprise 25th anniversary party on Aug. 12 at the American Legion Post 197.

The party was hosted by children Rebecca, Dana, and Austin Watts; Georgia and Gene Therio; and Wanda Martin.

A toast was given by Rick Leconte, and music was by DJ Dave Roubo. Gerri Stewart made the anniversary cake.

Class of ’50 celebrates

The Westbrook High School class of 1950 celebrated its 55th reunion in July with a three-day event.

On July 22, Norwood LeConte hosted a wine and cheese party at his home in Saco. Trays of fruits, cheese & crackers, desserts and beverages were served.

On July 23, classmates gathered at Keeley the Katerer’s on Warren Avenue for their reunion dinner and a program. They were given a bag of memories on arrival.

Hors d’oeuvre platters of fruits, vegetables, cheese and crackers, bacon-wrapped scallops and mushroom caps were enjoyed while participating in an “icebreaker” of states and capitols, which was won by Arthur Stanton. Another contest of “flower knowledge” was won by table 6, which included Laurette (Lauzon) Gallagher, Pauline (Tirrell) Langley, Gordon and Madeline (Stevens) McLucas, the Bartons, the Mitchells and the Petersons.

Gift prizes were presented to the winners.

A moment of silence was observed after a list of names was read of those who had died during the past five years. Letters were read from classmates who couldn’t attend.

Ruth (Johnson) Webster brought enough homemade needhams to share with all. Ed W. Clark provided the music, while classmates danced or mingled for the remainder of the evening.

On July 25, the Bartons and Ed Warren and Priscilla Clark hosted a cookout at the Bartons’ cottage at Harmon’s Beach on Sebago Lake. Hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, watermelon, desserts and beverages were served.

Classmates who attended the cookout were the Acetos, Arey, Arsenault, the Ayers, Bailey, Camire, Caron, Llewllyn Clark, Bob and Betty Garland, Hand, the Hansens, Holsten, LeConte, Ernie and Pat Libby, Lowell, the McLucases, Connie Middlesworth, the Mitchells, Norton, the O’Garas, the Petersons, Randall, Bruce Saunders, the Thorns, the Welches and Zaharis.

At the cookout, Stetson won a Westbrook “throw,” depicting various well-known buildings in the city.

Knights to meet

Bill Perham has announced that the Knights of Columbus, Council 2219, Westbrook, will hold its first meeting for the year at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, in the St. Anthony’s Parish basement.

All members are invited to attend.

Currier to address vets

Bill Currier will speak about repair options for the post headquarters when the Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 meets at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 17 Dunn St.

A meal with hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, coleslaw and strawberry shortcake will be served. $7.

Gospel breakfast

The local chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, in the American Legion Hall at 17 Dunn St.

John Fay of Reading, Mass., is the guest speaker. Fay, who is married and has two children, is a Web support manager for Putman Investments. He also plays in several bands, which perform at churches, conventions and large Christian events.

Trinity Sunday school rally day

Trinity Lutheran Church, 612 Main St., will hold an open house and rally on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The rally will start at 9 a.m. in the education building located at the rear of the church. Children of all ages are welcomed.

Come and meet our new teachers for the 2005/2006 Sunday school year and learn about the new and exciting plans for Christian education at Trinity. There are classes for all ages starting from age 3 to 18.

Trinity also offers a confirmation class, high school and an adult Bible class. The open house is an opportunity to meet the staff and ask questions about the curriculum used and all the new plans scheduled.
