This Sunday, rain or shine, the Windham Athletic Boosters will host their twelfth annual Windham Auto Show behind Wal-Mart. Event organizers expect about 400 automobiles to turn out this year. Anyone who wants to show off their vintage motorcycle, truck or street rod is welcome to participate, says Debbie Shkrioba, president of the Boosters.

“I’m surprised at how many are coming from Windham,” Deborah said. “We have a lot of people in the community who have old cars.”

Registration will be from 8 to 11 a.m. when the judging begins. The automobiles are divided into 29 different classes, some more specific than others, classes like “antique trucks,” “Camaro,” or “Ford muscle.” There is a winner for each class and a winner selected for “best in show.”

Frank Jimino of Jimino Motors, car enthusiast and local foreign auto mechanic, has been in charge of judging the auto show since its beginning. He and 20 other judges look at the cars for their overall condition – paint, interior and “under the hood” – as well as their presentation and history.

“(The judges) appreciate someone who’s taken the time to bring a car back to life,” Jimino said. “Rule of thumb is you walk down the line and there are cars that jump out at you.”

Last year’s winner of “best in show” was a 1964 Chevy Corvette owned by Tyler and Amanda Homer of Raymond.

The Auto Show is open to the public with general admission at $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $1 for kids under 12. All money raised goes to benefit Windham’s young athletes, many of whom will be on hand helping out at the show. The Boosters give a portion of the money to each of the high school’s varsity sports, Shkrioba said, and put the rest in an “endowment” to help support school sports programs when they need it.

The Windham Auto Show is made possible by support from local businesses. So bring your hot rod out of hiding or just stop by Windham Auto Show on Sunday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. to see the collection of classic automobiles.
