The Windham Public Library is participating in Project Katrina: Read for Relief with more than 60 other libraries so far across Maine in a book drive for the areas ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.

The library is donating four boxes of books originally earmarked for the Friends of Windham Public Library book sale.

Penny Brown, librarian at the Livermore Public Library, first came up with the idea when she heard on the news that shelters across the south providing temporary living arrangements to individuals and families displaced by Katrina were lacking diversionary reading materials.

To donate books, call the library at 892-1908.
