Most things have changed in a century, and the way we buy food has undergone significant improvement. This photo taken about 100 years ago, is a butcher shop in Portland, which was run by a Windham man named Cobb. At N. Cobb & Son Provisions, a person could purchase canned goods (as shown on the shelves) or their choice of meat (as shown on the counter). We can’t identify the man cutting the slab of meat, nor the fancy-dressed lady customer. This old picture and hundreds more are among the archives at Windham Historical Society, many of which show a picture of times gone by. Photo courtesy of Windham Historical Society
