With a twinkle in his eye, Santa Claus Jr. landed in a Westbrook barbershop last week for a trim but didn’t remove his red stocking cap in the barber’s chair.

The jolly Santa Jr. bounded into Brazier’s Barber Shop at 650 Main St. to have his white whiskers shortened before cutting out for a busy schedule. Despite the lengthy beard, the ageless Santa Jr. appeared as spry as ever.

“I feel like I’m getting younger,” he said.

Trimming Santa Jr. marked a first for barber Dianne Brazier, who owns the shop. Santa Jr. nestled into a swivel barber’s chair while Brazier covered his suit with a cloth just like any other customer. Snowy whiskers fell to the floor, as Brazier snipped and combed with care the flowing beard of the celebrity customer.

She asked him how long his beard had been growing. “Many years,” said Santa Jr., declining to reveal any information about his age.

Arriving in town for a primp to look his best for the holidays, Santa Jr. was decked out in his traditional regalia of red velvet with white trim and shiny boots.

Brazier had the feeling that she had met Santa Jr. before. “It’s always great to see Santa,” she said, as the jolly old saint checked out his beard in the barbershop mirrors.

Santa Jr. had a 9 a.m. appointment and arrived right on time in the spirit of old Saint Nick. Too early for snow, Santa Jr. must have parked his sleigh, as he pulled up to the barbershop driving a car himself.

He got a big hug from barber Priscilla Dee when he sprang through the barbershop door “lively and quick,” just as he was described in the poem “The Night Before Christmas.” He and a Santa’s helper, Savannah Leigh, handed red roses to Brazier and Dee.
