Bonny Eagle robotics team going to nationals

The Bonny Eagle High School honor flag was recently raised for the Bonny Eagle High School robotics team, who along with Midcoast School of Technology, Team 1276, from Rockland and Milford Area Youth Homeschoolers Enriching Minds, Team 1519 from Milford, N.H., won the BAE Granite State Regional competition on March 2 through March 4 in Manchester, N.H.

This win entitles the Bonny Eagle Robotics Team to participate in the national event in April at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga.

The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules.

Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in a series of competitions designed by Dean Kamen, Woodie Flowers and a committee of engineers and other professionals. The competition has grown to 1,125 teams competing in 33 regional events with the championship held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta where more than 8,500 high-school-aged young people participate.

The Bonny Eagle Robotics Team is now raising the necessary money to attend this event. They need $21,000 and members of the community can help fundraising efforts by attending their comedy show showcasing many comedians from the Comedy Connection. The show will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, at The Roost in Buxton.
