Showing off the form that made her a three-time Olympian, Kirsten Clark, a native of Raymond, took the top spot in Saturday’s women’s downhill race at the U.S. Alpine Championships, held this week at Sugarloaf USA.
Clark finished in a time of 1:19.65 and was clocked at a top speed of 69.5 mph. She also won the 53rd Annual Sugarloaf Schuss, which was held on Friday, in a time of 1:19.83.
In the downhill, Clark beat out Olympic gold medalist Julia Mancuso of Olympic Valley, Calif., who placed second in the downhill with a time of 1:20.14. Stacey Cook, of Truckee, Calif., was third in a time of 1.20.22, and Resi Stiegler, of Jackson Hole, Wyo., was fourth in a time of 1:20.60.
On Sunday, Clark kept up her top form by coming in second in the women’s Super G event. She finished with a time of 1.24.01, just .11 seconds from beating Stacey Cook’s top time of 1.23.90. Kaylin Richardson finished third in a time of 1.24.04. Julia Mancuso placed fourth in a time of 1.24.38, and Resi Steigler was fifth in a time of 1.24.53.
On Wednesday, Clark took part in the women’s Giant Slalom race. Clark was disqualified after missing a gate in the first run.
“I was just a bit behind the course and out,” Clark told the Associated Press. “That’s how it goes…I’m going to head to Raymond a little sooner than I was planning but it will be nice.”
