Both Windham and Bonny Eagle sent contingents of athletes to participate in the 58th Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club Patriots Day Road Race, and the Scots’ boys narrowly missed taking home the team trophy.

Evan Embrey (3rd), Eric Favreau (8th) and Ben Roy (12th) each had strong performances for Bonny Eagle, finishing near the top of the 122-runner field. Portland’s Joshua Wang (10:46) edged out Scarborough’s Chris Harmon (10:49) for first place.

“I didn’t go out fast,” said Wang. “I just kept my pace the whole way through. It was good race.”

Deering’s Ashley Morgan took an impressive 14 seconds off of the 20-year-old girls’ record, clocking in at 11:58 to win the girls’ race.

Scots runners Murphy Doughty (18th), David Carl (20th), Patrick Gosselin (24th), Brad Bolton (28th), Allen Cox (30th), Evan Semle (33rd), Shawn Smith (39th) and Mao Ye (40th) also finished among the top third.

Garin Shaugnessy (37th) was the top finisher for Windham. Scarborough edged out the Scots for the boys’ team award, while Greely took the girls’ team trophy.

“We had a good representation of a lot of schools, and a large number of entries,” Rolf said. “Having a course record is always special. All in all it was a good day.”
