The Knights of Columbus, Council 10020 awarded five scholarships to youth of Our Lady of Perpetual Help[ Church in Windham. In total, $250 were awarded to two students attending Catholic high schools and three $500 awards were presented to students who are or will be attending college in the fall of 2006.

The recipients for this year’s scholarships were: Kathryn Lavelle, McAuley High School; Andrew Hermon, Cheverus High School; Adam Noel, St. Francis Xavier University; Samanth Ennis, Windham High School/Stonehill College; and Erin Wilson, Bonny Eagle High School/Ithaca College.

The winners were selected based on scholarship as well as school and community activities. Each also wrote two essays describing their goals and what it meant to be part of a Catholic community. The committee noted that they were very impressed with all the candidates and thank all who applied.

Council 10020 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish was founded in 1989. Since it has grown to a membership of over 70 members who serve their parish, community, and state. Brother Knights have been involved in hosting dinners to raise money for the church and other activities, supporting parish events, annual Tootsie Roll fundraiser for the handicapped, parish cleanups, etc. The council provides four scholarships each year to youth attending Catholic high schools or going on to college.
