It took an extra week, some umbrellas and an unexpected drive up the coast, but the Bonny Eagle and Windham boys finally completed their track seasons Saturday at Bowdoin College.

The Class A state championship, originally scheduled to be held a week prior at Thornton Academy, was postponed after one event, pushed back a week and moved north.

Bonny Eagle, coming off a Class A state championship in indoor track, finished fourth among 27 teams with 49 points. Windham finished with 12 points.

Bonny Eagle seniors Ben Roy and Greg Gadbois finished second and third respectively in the 110-meter hurdles, less then half a second apart. The pair then teamed up to help place Bonny Eagle in both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

The Scots’ 4 x 100 quartet, consisting of Roy, Ernie Simard, Evan Semle and Gadbois finished sixth. The 4 x 400 squad, which included Gadbois, Roy, Evan Embrey and Eric Favreau, also finished sixth.

Bonny Eagle got eight points behind Allen Cox’s second-place finish in the 1,600m race walk, Embrey finished third in the 3,200m and Favreau finished fourthin the 800m.

However, the team’s fourth place finish left coach Greg Wilkinson a bit disappointed.

“I think we underachieved,” he said. “We were seeded for 55 points, but you’d think in a state meet we’d get a few extra points here and there. You have to take your hat off to Lewiston and Edward Little. They are very, very good.”

Lewiston won the meet with 82.5 points, and Edward Little finished second with 79.

Wilkinson went on to say that winning the meet was not the most important measure of success, but rather having the kids performing to the best of their abilities.

He made mention of the seniors – including Gadbois, Roy, Favreau, Embrey and Simard – who will be difficult to replace on the team.

Windham’s top finisher was junior Chris Darling. He placed third in the javelin with a throw of 159-feet, 3-inches. Senior Jesse Woodman was fifth in the event.

Travis Cook earned the Eagles three combined points, placing sixth in the long jump and seventh in the 200.
