Drew Gagnon launched a two-run home run to deep center field as the Sebago-Long Lake all stars defeated Gorham, 10-0, in the Cal Ripken District II 12-and-under tournament Wednesday in Gorham.

The homer came in the first inning, bouncing off the roof of the Gorham Recreation building located in center.

Gagnon also started the game on the mound, pitching two innings and allowing only one hit, while striking out three. Matt Schreiber and Tammy Scribner pitched in relief.

AJ Bennett drove in a run in the second inning with a triple to the fence. Dakota Bush was strong, coming into the game to lay down a nice bunt along the third base line and also making a diving catch in the outfield.

“For an all-star team, he’s great off the bench,” coach Lonnie Taylor said. “You can’t win with just the nine players; we need all 12 to complete us.”

The Sebago-Long Lake Cal Ripken League includes youngsters from the towns of Bridgton, Casco, Harrison, Naples, Raymond, Sebago and Waterford.

The league’s 12-and-under all stars now advance to the state tournament in Eliot next week.

“I have a really good feeling about states,” Taylor said. “I’ve been setting that goal of the Cal Ripken World Series in Maryland. If they play together and they always keep their heads high, we could make it.”
