A Portland police officer was transported to a hospital following a collision of a Portland canine cruiser with a passenger car about 3:30 p.m. today on the corner of William Clarke and Larrabee drives.

The car apparently was driven by a woman who appeared unhurt. An excited Portland police dog, Carr, also appeared unhurt and was removed from the cruiser and placed in a van.

The accident slowed rush hour traffic at the signalized intersection, which faces the Westbrook Public Safety building.

Gorham Police Chief Ron Shepard was assisting Westbrook police at the scene.

Westbrook dispatch had no information to release at this time.
