Just a short time ago, Karen Swaim, owner of Secret Acres Stables in Naples got to thinking. How could she bring the opportunity of riding horses to many kids who were unable to afford it?

Determined to make a difference, Swaim decided to explore the possibilities of starting a nonprofit organization that would provide low-to-middle-income Lake Region students with an opportunity of a lifetime: a free after-school program geared just for them, that would teach them everything about the care and management of horses and included too were the riding lessons that some of these kids only dreamed of. Thus came the inspiration for the Successful Dreams Equestrian Center.

While Successful Dreams is still in its initial phases, it presently has an active board of directors busily planning ways in which to reach the local public about their venture, as well as finding sponsors and raising support to get this project off the ground.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, Successful Dreams will be hosting a dance cruise on the Songo River Queen from 7 to 10 p.m. featuring the classic rock music of the Average Joe Band. There will also be raffles and a 50/50 drawing on board and beverages and refreshments will also be available.

Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the River Queen that evening prior to departure, or by calling Secret Acres Stables at 693-3441. All proceeds raised will benefit Successful Dreams Equestrian Center.
