As Westbrook residents and taxpayers in Cumberland County, we are honored to be supporting Edward “Ted” Blais for the office of sheriff in Cumberland County. We have known Ted and his family for several years, but even a brief conversation invariably includes his two passions: his family and law enforcement. He is an honest, hard working professional dedicated to serving the public.

Ted Blais is a 20-year veteran of the town of Gorham Police Department. He was the department’s first DARE officer, a detective and eventually rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Ted has earned a master’s degree in criminal justice and is currently serving as the chief of police for the University of Maine in Farmington. As a respected leader in the law enforcement community, Ted’s accomplishments have earned him the distinction of being selected to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., in 2007.

Ted Blais has worked his entire career towards his goal of becoming the leader of a professional law enforcement agency. As the sheriff of Cumberland County, Ted will serve the citizens well. He has demonstrated a commitment to being tough on crime and will serve as a fiscally responsible manager of our taxpayer dollars.

Ted Blais recognizes that the Sheriff’s Office must become directly involved in illegal drug investigations. He understands that illegal drug activity is the root of many other crimes such as robberies and burglaries being committed in our communities. As our sheriff, Ted will immediately assign detectives to assist the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in their efforts to keep illegal drugs out of our schools and neighborhoods.

Ted Blais has the experience, qualifications and the personal character to bring effective leadership to the office of sheriff. We urge the citizens of Westbrook and all of Cumberland County to join us in supporting Ted Blais for sheriff on Nov. 7.
