Gertrude Jewett was honored on her 103rd birthday Thursday at a party with family and friends at Gorham House.

Helping celebrate are son, Leon LaBrecque, left, and her grandson, Ron LaBrecque, both of Gorham. Jewett once worked in the lingerie department of a Washington, D.C., store, where she waited on three first ladies – Bess Truman, Mamie Eisenhower and Pat Nixon besides Truman’s daughter Margaret. She also met President Harry Truman, who tipped his hat to her. Jewett was born Jan. 11, 1904, in Windham.
