Scarborough Fish and Game Association has launched a capital campaign to raise money in order to renovate its trapshooting facility.

Trapshooting has evolved over the past 200 years. Initially, participants shot at pigeons were released from traps, but these days, clay targets are used. Scarborough’s facility is open to the public on Sundays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and new shooters are always welcome.

The renovated facility will feature a new building and nine new trap fields, which will be the site of the 117th Annual Maine State Trap Shoot at the end of July. A gift of $250 earns an inscribed brick to be placed near the flagpole, a gift of $2,500 earns naming rights to one of the fields and a gift of $50,000 earns naming rights to the new building.

The Scarborough Fish and Game Association is located at 70 Holmes Road, across from Beech Ridge Speedway. The 500 members participate in activities such as archery, rifle shooting and courses in home firearms safety.
