Photographer Layne Kennedy from Minneapolis was seen roaming the surface of Sebago Lake on Saturday working on a new book on ice fishing in North America.

“The book is going to be about ice fishing, but it’s going to include everything from shanties to spear fishing,” he said. He is currently traveling up and down the Canadian border snapping photos and taking notes.

“It’s about the passions of the ice,” he said. “It’s not going to be a how-to book, it’s more about the communities that go on the ice like in Sebago.

Author Greg Breining will be writing the text of the book to accompany. The two have known each other for 20 years and recently worked on a Sports Illustrated article on Soviet Ice Fishing.

The book will include some information on ice fishing in Greenland and Russia for comparison, according to Kennedy.

Kennedy said the book will be available locally when it’s released in July of 2008. It will be published by Borealis Books, a division of the Minnesota Historical Society Press.
