The Portland High boys lacrosse team used a seven-goal second half to down Cape Elizabeth, 11-7, Saturday night at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The Bulldogs led early before Cape answered with a pair of goals to close the gap to 4-2 at halftime. Chris Bagley and Zach Belden led the way for the Capers with two goals apiece.

The hosts scored seven times in the third and fourth periods to distance themselves from the Capers. “We played hard, had a lot of shots, but when you don’t put the shots in the net, it’s hard to win the game.” said Cape head coach Ben Raymond.

“We played a good game. They’ve been our rival for a long time and we just never let up on them and that was key in our win,” said Portland head coach Eric Begonia.

Both teams got excellent work from their goaltenders – Jeremy Finney of Portland and Eric Knight for Cape Elizabeth.

K.R. Jurgelevich led the way for the Bulldogs with six goals and senior captain Sam McAdam chipped in with three goals of his own.
