The late Edgar Carswell owned a drug store at 12 Main St. for many years. He and his wife had once lived at the corner of South and Lincoln streets and later on Gray Road. In an American Journal article about Gorham’s history Jan. 15, 1986, Mildred Loveitt wrote that Carswell had been born in 1878 and in 1905 went to Gorham, where he lived until his death at 89. Carswell had served as selectman, school committee member, library trustee, state senator and town meeting moderator for 30 years.
