On Saturday, Sept. 8, the First Lutheran Church in Portland, located at 132 Auburn St., is hosting a special fundraiser for “Project Katrina,” aptly named for mission work that is being done in the Gulf Coast region of Louisiana.
The event will consist of a presentation of two prior missions with a special premiere of a new song “Katrina” composed by Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook member John Muthyala in memory of the devastation caused by Katrina and the much needed work that still exists.
There will also be conversation, fellowship and gourmet desserts to follow. The event is to help promote the release of the song “Katrina” with the CD available for $10. All of the proceeds will go to fund a third mission trip to Slidell, La. A free-will offering will be accepted. For more information, contact Muthyala at 854-1645 or Jane Sinclair at 854-2174.
