Windham Lions Club President Cathy Fortier, standing, shows Virginia Billings of Southern Maine Agency on Aging how to use the Optelec Spectrum Unit. Windham Lions recently presented the equipment for use at Unity Gardens Senior Housing on Tandberg Trail.

The Optelec enables individuals with vision problems to read printed materials such as maps and phone books, or the fine print on government mailings that are difficult for many to read. The machine magnifies up to 65 times the size and the words are displayed on a monitor screen for easy viewing. Billings stressed that this unit is available to the general public and can be used Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The donation of the Optelec unit was made possible through the efforts of Windham Public Library and Windham Lions Club.
