Parents, adult friends of grieving children

Sister Jackie Moreau of St. Anne’s, 299 Main St., Gorham, has announced the church will host a presentation by Patricia Ellen from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18.

Patricia Ellen works for the Center for Grieving Children. “Come and learn how you can support a young person through the loss of a close family member, friend, pet, home,” Moreau said.

Alternative energy talk

The Gorham Business and Civic Exchange will host an “Alternate Energy Sources” luncheon meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the University of Southern Maine’s new “green dorms” conference room on the Gorham campus.

Speakers are Dudley Greely, USM environmental and economic coordinator; Jim Robinson, of Mainely Plumbing & Heating; and Peter Davis, owner of The Sun Depot.

They will present information on solar and geothermal energy sources along with energy equity for small business to help save money. Introducing the “Negawatt” and sharing “Efficiency Maine” literature and tips.

Reservations are required, costing $15 each for members; $20 each for non-members. Lunch menu includes roll-up sandwiches, chips, fruit, dessert and beverages.

Gardeners to hear Davis

Rhonda Davis of Eight Corners Farm in Windham will speak when the Gorham Garden Club meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the First Parish Congregational Church on Church Street.

Holiday design will be Davis’ topic and designs will be auctioned.

The public is invited.

Choral concert

Ervin P. Kimball of Gorham, manager of the Portland Community Chorus, has announced times and dates for its fall concert at the South Portland High School auditorium.

The concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The 125-member chorus conducted by Rob Westerberg will perform a variety of holiday music including Old English Carols and Shepherd’s Pipe Carol by John Rutter.

Tickets, available at Starbird Music in Portland and from chorus members, are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
