Men’s 4 on 4 basketball league tips off season

The annual spring league kicked off last week with 11 teams trying win their openers. Defending League champs VTEC shook off the cobwebs in the second half and pulled away from New Era, 105-88.

VTEC only led by three at half before taking control. VTEC’s dynamic duo of Matt Clement and Caleb Sayward had 34 and 33 points respectively. Mike Wilkins had 28 and Bill Hardwick 24 to pace New Era.

The Legends pounded Shake N Bake, 130-102. Frank Billings lit up the scoreboard for 48, including an amazing 12 3-pointers for the winners. CJ Vose and Tom Farwell added 29 and 25 for the Legends. Eben Delano led Shake N Bake with 28 and Andrew Gerry added 27.

Dream Team rallied late to down Run N Gun, 78-74. Jordan Hebert’s two foul shots with four seconds to go iced it for the winners. Seth Farrington led Dream Team with 33. Kevin Lamson had 20 for Run N Gun.

The Leftovers held off Strictly Business, 86-79. Lincoln Bieglow had 28 and Brian White 23 for the victors. Matt Isaacs, Stu Brown and Phil Clifford each had 22 for Strictly Business.

PBR took control of a tight game in the second half to down the Bus Drivers, 93-79. Ryan Caron led a balanced PBR attack with 25 and Nick Farynaz chipped in with 20. Derek Goff played a strong all around game for the Bus Drivers, scoring 29. Mark Coffey added 16.

Team Hancock ran away from Strictly Business, 100-76. Matt Hancock was simply unstoppable for the winners, pouring in 58 with 10 3-pointers. John Kohtala added 20 for Hancock. Matt Isaacs led Strictly Business with 20, including five 3’s. Games are Mondays and Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Men’s 40 and over basketball league getting under way

The league has been scheduled to start Sunday, April 5. Games are Sunday evenings, 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. We are still looking for players and teams. Call the Gray Rec Department at for more info.
