The players selected for the 20th annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic reported to training camp at Hebron Academy on Sunday for a week of preparation prior to Saturday’s game at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford.

On Tuesday, after the first of three practices on the day, the players met with members of the media. Here’s what some local players had to say about the upcoming game, playing for the Shriners’ cause and what it means to be selected:

Josh Spearin, OL, Bonny Eagle

Spearin plans to play football at the University of Maine in the fall.

“We’ve got a good team. We’ve been doing two practices a day. Three today. They’re working us pretty good. The camp gets you in shape for whatever you’re going on to in college.”

Clayton Loubier, DL, Gorham

Loubier plans to study architecture at Wentworth Institute of Technology in the fall.

“It’s a great honor to be able to represent my team and my school. To be a part of something as big is this is something I’ve always wanted to do since I started playing football when I was little and found out about it. This is the last time I’ll play football, so it’s great to have one more shot.”

Nick Adriance. OL, Westbrook

Adriance, who missed most of his senior football season because of mono and injuries, plans to attend the University of New England in the fall, where he’ll join the swim team.

“Getting back into football and being able to do something good for the Shriners is a great feeling. It’s the last time I’ll put on the pads. I’m just looking to hold my own. I’m pretty undersized, so I’ve been in the weight room three or four times a week, sometimes two times a day, just trying to get ready, lifting as much as I can to be as strong as I can.”
