Day of Hockey fundraiser upcoming

“A Day of Hockey” to benefit the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital will be held Feb. 28 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. There will be youth games beginning at 7 a.m., a contest between the Southern Maine Law Enforcement All-Stars and the Portland Fire Department at 12 p.m. and a Portland Pirates vs. Albany River Rats contest at 4 p.m. The cost is $12. Waynflete seeking varsity crew assistant

Waynflete School needs a varsity crew assistant coach for the upcoming spring season. Practices begin in mid-March and the season concludes at the end of May. Experience rowing and/or coaching is required. Boat maintenance and trailering experience is a plus. SMCC splits, then sweeps

The Southern Maine Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams hosted New Hampshire Technical Institute last week and had vastly different results. The women rolled to a 70-42 victory behind 19 points apiece from Rachel Del Camp an Alisa Sweet, while the men fell 108-76. despite 21 points from Paul Holland and 18 from Coleman Findlay. Sunday, at home versus Vermont Tech, the women rolled 74-53 (Del Camp had 18 points and Nicole Poland added 17) to improve to 13-8, while the men won 100-64 (Holland had 26 points and Paul Burchill added 22) and are now 14-11.

PBC fighters triumph at regional Golden Gloves

Portland Boxing Club fighters Russell Lamour (middleweight), Liz Leddy (women’s featherweight) and Casey Kramlich (open class light welterweight all enjoyed victories at last weekend’s regional Golden Gloves championships in Burlington, Vt. The three fighers will next take part in the New England Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions Feb. 16-17 in Lowell, Mass. PBC head coach Bobby Russo was named the Jim Sheridan regional Golden Gloves Coach of the Year award.
