TOKYO – Japan says industrial production fell in February for the first time in a year, due to sluggish demand for transport and information equipment.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry says factory output in the world’s second biggest economy retreated 0.9 percent from a month earlier.

The unemployment rate stood at 4.9 percent — unchanged from January, the government said.
