Key games this season: “Our entire schedule is tough,” Hayward said.

Season outlook: The Capers enter this spring looking to improve on last year’s record where they entered the Class B playoffs as the No. 1 seed, but fell short of a regional title with a loss to No. 4 Greely in the semifinals. Hayward said he thinks the Capers will have another strong season, especially on the offensive side. “We expect to be competitive once the bats come alive,” he said.

Girls lacrosse

Coach: Kurt Chapin

Last year’s record: 8-6, Lost to Waynflete in the Western Maine final

Key players: Maddie Spagnola – D, Anna Darling – M, Karyn Barrett – A, Paris Bethel – M, Emily Taintor – D

Key games this season: Waynflete, NYA, Yarmouth

Season outlook: “We are a young team with only two seniors,” Chapin said. “We have our entire defense back and will have to fill in holes on attack. We graduated seven seniors, so we will need younger girls to fill the leadership roles. We have two young goalies fighting for the starting job.”

Boys tennis

Coach: Andy Strout

Last year’s record: 9-5

Key players: Returning seniors Calvin Alden, Bailey Dittrich, John Tranfaglia

Juniors Ross Sherman, Ben Morse

Key games this season: Falmouth, Yarmouth Waynflete

Season outlook: According to Strout, the Capers will be looking to beef up their doubles pairs this spring. “We have competitive singles players, so its up to finding the right combination of doubles players,” he said.

Girls tennis

Coach: Sarah Boeckel

Last year’s record: 8-6

Key players: Seniors Jenni Hewes, Kristin Kerney, Elizabeth Marcuse, Rebecca Manning, Olivia Desena Junior, Sarah Cummings

Key matches this season: “Each and every match (will be important),” Boeckel said.

Season outlook: “(We have a) great group of athletes,” the coach said. “The playoffs will be our goal!”

Softball

Coach: Joe Henrikson

Last year’s record: 15-1, lost to Fryeburg Academy in the Class B semifinals

Season outlook: The Capers lost a tough battle last year to Fryeburg Academy in the semifinals, derailing their dreams of regional and state titles. Look for the Capers to rebound this spring and be among the top teams in Class B once again.

Boys lacrosse

Coach: Ben Raymond

Last year’s record: 10-2, won Class B West championship, lost to Yarmouth in state championship

Season outlook: While the Capers had to be pleased with a regional title last spring, they were not happy with the way the season ended, with a 12-9 loss to Yarmouth in the Class B state title game. The Capers will be looking to take that last step to a state championship this spring.
