Nick Bunker, who was scheduled to speak at a Maine Historical Society event on Thursday in Portland, has postponed his trip because of the travel chaos in Europe resulting from the volcanic ash spewing into the atmosphere from Iceland.
Bunker is the author of “Making Haste from Babylon: The Mayflower Pilgrims and Their World: A New History.”
The British author made two research trips to Maine, traveling up the Kennebec Valley in search of the beaver fur trade that financed the Plymouth Colony. His book offers a new perspective on the history of the Mayflower. The Historical Society will try to reschedule the appearance for later in the year.
