Keegan Hyland of South Portland has verbally committed to play basketball at Gonzaga University, a Division I school in Spokane, Wash.

Hyland missed all but three games for the Red Riots this past winter because of a fractured pelvis. Hyland played in the last regular season game and two tournament games. He scored 32 points against Westbrook in the Western Maine Class A  tournament semifinals, a game South Portland lost.

Hyland went over the 1,000-point career mark as a junior and finished with 1,110 points. He averaged 27.7 points a game as a junior.

Hyland visited Gonzaga, a perennial NCAA tournament qualifier, last week where Coach Mark Few offered the scholarship.

Hyland is expected to sign a national letter of intent. He had intended to play at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., in a post-graduate season.
