PORTLAND — The School Committee on Wednesday is expected to appoint two new school administrators.

Superintendent James C. Morse Sr. is recommending Ira Waltz as the new principal of Deering High School and Hiram Sibley to fill the assistant principal position at King Middle School.

Waltz in the 1990s was an assistant principal at Deering, a teaching principal at Peaks Island Elementary School and an interim principal at Reiche Community School. He has been assistant superintendent of the Wells-Ogunquit schools since 2002 and was also an administrator in Scarborough.

He has a bachelor’s degree from University of Maine at Farmington, a Master of Science degree in special education from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master of Education in educational administration and supervision from Plymouth State College, according to a statement from the Portland schools.

Waltz would replace Ken Kunin at Deering. Kunin, who has been principal at the high school since 2005, announced his resignation in February.

Sibley has worked at King for 14 years. He started as an education technician and is currently a teaching strategist.
