CYR PLANTATION — The Maine attorney general says a state trooper and U.S, Border Patrol agent were justified when they shot and killed a man who leveled a rifle at them as they attempted to arrest him following a domestic disturbance in Cyr Plantation.

The report, released today, says 55-year-old Neil Begin was shot once, and then shot a second time after he got up, still wielding the rifle. He later died at a Bangor hospital.

Police recovered a pair of rifles and marijuana from Begin’s home.

Officers went to Begin’s home on April 23 after he allegedly pointed a loaded rifle at his wife, his adult son and his son’s girlfriend the night before. The report says his blood-alcohol content at the hospital was 0.248 percent, three times the limit for driving.
