PORTLAND — An accident combined with an unusually heavy volume of southbound traffic caused traveling delays for motorists who used Tukey’s Bridge this afternoon.
State Trooper John Kyle said a two-car collision on Tukey’s Bridge forced police to close one lane of southbound traffic on Interstate 295 just before 2 p.m. The accident, along with construction work taking place in the area, caused traffic to back up.
One of the vehicles involved in the crash had to be towed from the bridge. No one was seriously injured. But, the cleanup took some time to complete.
“We’ve noticed that the traffic volume has been very heavy this summer, especially on Fridays and Sundays,” Kyle said. “It also doesn’t help that all this construction work is happening at the same time.”
